How do i unlock all 74 characters in Alice: Madness Returns?

Ive played the game all the way through on hard mode and yet on the on the extra content/characters page on the main menu it says I have only encountered 19/74 of the available characters. Where do I find the other 55?How do i unlock all 74 characters in Alice: Madness Returns?

Pretty sure you have to explore every little thing in the game. I'm only up to chapter 4, but I'm already at 14 characters. Also memory collection may help.
